Les Bourgs Hospice at Andrew
Mitchell House, was founded in 1991
for the people of Bailiwick of
Gurnsey. All residents of Bailiwick
are able to come to the hospice as an
in-patient, as well as for respite or
day care. There is no charge for the
services
provided.
Following substantial
redevelopment and
expansion in 2011, the
property opened to offer a
purpose-built hospice to
meet the needs of Bailiwick.
After many years of service, the
hospice recently asked G4S to
take over the maintenance of
the ‘Entro’ access control
system as originally installed.
At G4S we realised the age of the system was becoming
no longer supportable due to rising costs and difficulty in
obtaining access cards.
As a well-respected charity, providing critical services to
Bailiwick, G4S recognised and acknowledged the
contributions Les Bourgs Hospice make to the local
community, and realised an upgrade to the security
access systems would not only improve day-to-day
security, but would also bring the facility up to today’s
standards for access control and security.
A Free-of-Charge upgrade was made possible by G4S
with support from its partners Grosvenor Technology
(Access Control) Third Millennium (Reader Technology)
and Assa Abloy (Locking Solutions) – all market leaders.
Compared to many systems, access control to the
hospice is modest, but still needed to provide safety and
security to its residents, visitors, and staff.
After discussing reader options
with Steve Greenaway, from
Third Millennium, the RX2
advanced OSDP access control
reader was chosen for its elegant
and slimline profile, and easy
configuration. As a
replacement to the existing
installation, the RX2 reader also
provided a slightly larger footprint, removing the need
for redecoration.
Grosvenor Technology’s Bradley Cohen recommended the
Janus C4 access platform, running on their supplied mini
PC, would be the ideal solution, offering a fully featured
access control system, easily configurable and very
intuitive for the user.
The hospice also had need of an additional access
controlled door. But due to its location and recent
decoration a cabled solution would be difficult. Pat
Jefferies of Assa Abloy suggested their Aperio wireless
locking solution would be ideal to solve problem.
Following order and receipt of all equipment required,
the complete system was test-bench assembled, and all
doors and readers configured to site requirements.
Finally, Third Millennium access credentials were
programmed and issued to staff prior to the changeover
of systems.
The project highlights the value of collaborative
partnerships between businesses and charities,
demonstrating how businesses can make a significant
impact on non-profit organisations.
“We have received superb service from Keith and his team,
and partners throughout the entire process” said Rob Jones,
Chief Executive Officer. “The work they have done has not
only provided us with cutting-edge security but has also
significantly reduced the financial burden on the hospice. We
are deeply grateful for their generosity and expertise.”
