The Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) is an access control communication protocol adopted by the Security Industry Association to improve interoperability among access control and security products. When access security systems are being replaced or retrofitted, OSDP should be considered as an alternative to Wiegand. Many card readers can be vulnerable to attack when using a traditional Wiegand interface between the access control reader and the control panel. OSDP offers end users more options, due to its interoperable and secure nature.
